I absolutely hate when I get an amazing idea for a blog post while I'm driving and I can't type/write it down. I obviously can't do it for safety reasons and I don't want to be pulled over for texting and driving. All that fun stuff. So of course, when I finally arrive home I forget what it was and wished that I had a tape recorder. Just as that thought occurred to me I realized that I have a voice memo recorder on my phone. I shall have to put that to use these days. It will help out a great deal.
But there is something I wanted to try out today. Since I mentioned there's a lot of songs I would really love to have on my playlist here, I figured I would bring them to you in a post. Playlist.com is weird and doesn't always have a lot of songs and sometimes the songs work or they don't. So some of these songs may have been on my playlist at some point in time but may not be now. So I post these YouTube videos merely for the songs, so no need to pay attention to the actual videos. I'm all about the sounds for now. Shall I also warn you, these are more of the "depressing" songs, so don't expect to be put in a hippin' dancin' mood.
The Gathering is one of my favorite bands who I am immensely addicted to. This song was on repeat for several weeks while I was at home or driving. I just couldn't stop listening to it, and it makes me really sad that it's not on my playlist. Here is "Like Fountains" the 2003 version.
Another The Gathering song, "Golden Grounds." I've actually posted the lyrics in another post, as I've used the title for yet another photo of mine. Total side note: About 99% of the photos on the sidebar here have captions that are song lyrics. Most of my deviantART photos are also titled with lyrics as well. Back to the song! I got the album as a gift from a friend for my 22nd birthday, and I listened to it nonstop for several months and still do time to time. Around that time I got addicted to various songs on the CD and I think this song still holds firm ground. Heh, ground. Anyways, I used to listen to the album before going to sleep with headphones and no hearing aids. Some music is just so absolutely incredible to experience that way. This song is intense enough, especially when it's really loud, when you can feel it in your chest. When I'm in bed, in the dark, with this music pounding my ears, it's quite frankly the only sense I have at the moment which enhances the experience so much. This is another excellent reason why I don't need drugs, because what I feel is already transcendent on its own. I really can't do the justice of explaining in writing how amazing this is for me, but I will say that the intensity of this song controls my breathing, my heart rate...it's absolutely amazing.
I guess I'll have to keep unleashing my Gathering obsession. Here's another, "Saturine" live semi-acoustic. The studio version of the song [as you should find in my playlist] is the first song that got me into the band. I love her raw voice and what she has to say. Then I recently got into their live semi-acoustic album and heard this version and fell in love with it.
Next is a song I once had on my playlist and was thrilled to actually have found it there in the first place. Elizabeth Fraser is the singer for Cocteau Twins and has done a handful of songs for Massive Attack, my favorite being "Joyluckclub" [which I finally have on my playlist!!!!]. This is something she did that appeared on the Cruel Intentions soundtrack. I could listen to it all day. You can actually watch this video, although the quality isn't the best.
Rob Thomas "All That I Am" was briefly on my playlist then it stopped working. I recently discovered the song and I actually do enjoy Rob Thomas and his work quite a bit, as I've described an aspect of it here.
Hmm, well next is a song from Switchfoot that I always forget exists. I just heard it on the radio the other night so I felt like adding it to the list. Here is the original video for "Dare You To Move." Which reminds me, the CD player in my car just recently broke so it's forced me to suffer through the radio.
I felt like adding this video for fun because I was just talking about it today. I didn't grow up with cable television so I never saw music videos til one day in my young life MTV was on at my neighbor's house. I saw this video and one of Marilyn Manson's videos. Needless to say, my naive and sheltered young self was freaked out by these experiences. Which is horribly hilarious now since I live for stuff like this. But I have yet to watch this video since that day, so it's probably not bad at all. Here's Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy." A great song by the way.
Of course after watching a video called "Sex and Candy" the recommendation is a video on how to have better sex. I found it particularly interesting and if you didn't already click to watch it, I bring it back to your face! It's a safe video I swear...maybe not entirely work safe.
Ha! I'm a feminist! It's so true!
Another Gathering song, "Black Light District." This song is very long, thus separated into two videos. It's quite intense.
The Unknownn is a relatively...unknown band. I found out about them from an ex and am grateful for that. I also love that one of my best friends already knew who they were too. It's really hard to find their songs on mainstream playlist sites, so here is my favorite "Raw." I definitely suggest watching/listening to their other songs. The piano always gets to me. The song is indeed good for when you're in that crying mood.
Next up is my sweet Alanis. This song has particularly inspired me a great deal. I plan to write my own poem or probably several in the style similar to this song. This is definitely not the only song of her's that inspires me in such ways, but definitely one of my favorites of which I absolutely love singing to. I bring you, "Are You Still Mad."
Ah, Bush captures that 90's child in me. I'll admit, Bush is one of my top favorite bands as well. How can you not love a Scorpio vocalist anyways? There's far more beautiful songs that I like from them that I may list here, but "Jesus Online" has the beats my body can't deny. I love this song and the sexiness it has. It makes me want to move.
Alright, another Bush song. "Distant Voices." My feelings that stem from this song are well described in this post.
Candlebox is another one of my favorite 90's bands. This song is actually one of their more recent, or not 90's song. The video is a combo of two songs, "Breathe Me In Intro" which is instrumental and I absolutely love it, and then "Breathe Me In" with vocals. And oh snaps, the lyrics are good. They'll come up on the video with the vocals.
Alright, last one for today. Dry Kill Logic's "No Reason." I discovered this song from an ex and I don't think I like any other songs from this band. This song is pretty emotional, so I enjoy it.
