And drift awayyyy....
More songs to share with you that may or may not have been or able to be on my playlist. Sequel to this post.
Ours is an incredible band that doesn't seem to get enough credit. Jimmy Gnecco's voice is fucking fantastic. So intensely strong and emotional and dark. I have such great appreciation for his talent. Now, because I'm so focused on his voice, I will have to post several songs from them just to get you familiarized. This is so fun!
Below is "Medication." I really love the build up during the whole song to the very intense ending.
"God Only Wants You" is one of Ours' most intense songs. It'll get loud. This video is actually an original music video, I didn't watch much of it, but it looks interesting and has an extended intro.
"Sometimes" is a more fast pace song, and actually the first song I heard and thoroughly enjoyed from Ours. It's another original music video that I actually find aesthetically pleasing.
Unfortunately there isn't as many videos or non-live videos of songs I want, so the last Ours song here is "Meet Me in the Tower."
Placebo not only has an awesome name, but they have awesome music too. I really ought to get more into the rest of their songs. But here is one of my favorites, "Centrefolds." Gotta love piano.
I personally really enjoyed the film Across the Universe, and all the music. One of my favorites was Joe Cocker's cover of "Come Together." I listened to that for days on end. Another one of those songs that makes you want to move.
Next is a band I discovered on myspace back in the day from a friend, The 3rd and the Mortal. Absolutely beautiful music, very instrumental, the kind that makes me cry. This was the very first song I fell in love with "Veiled Exposure."
Next up is VNV Nation's "Endless Skies." My absolute favorite song of theirs. I specifically posted a video with lyrics [and awesome visuals] because the lyrics reach out to me so much. Often in the days where I would walk around campus with my headphones this song would come on just as I was already admiring the sky. It always put me in a very peaceful and emotional place. I hope you guys appreciate it as much as I do.
Ulver is a very fascinating Norwegian metal band, whose name means wolves in Norwegian. Need I also mention that the singer as one of the most epic voices I've ever heard. "Gnosis" is my favorite Ulver song, it's quite long [which I always prefer] but when the vocals come in towards the end, they intensify my feelings within. The background story to this specific song is also really awesome. The lyrics are inspired by Arthur Rimbaud's "A Season in Hell." Lyrics are here. My favorite part of the vocals is when he repeatedly sings "I prefer to remain silent."
The Smashing Pumpkins had a song on the trailer to Watchmen that made me jizz my pants every goddamn time...which I apparently never actually mentioned. The combination of the visuals and the music made me want to see the movie so much more. "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" is freaking fantastical!!
During the Hurricane Katrina disaster, Trent Reznor performed the song "Non-entity," which I was utterly obsessed with. I have a remixed version currently on my playlist, but I really adore the original version. More piano action.
Morcheeba is not a band I'm totally familiar with, but I do like some of their music. Here's "Blue Chair" and below that is "Hemphasis."
Here's another one from The Gathering, "Mandylion" and "Leaves" which is an official video and a cheesy one at that. Oh sweet 90's.
Alright, time for me to stop now. Hope you enjoyed this!!
