It is really awesome to be a part of a whole other world. I'm talking about the industry I now work in. There are, like any workplace, new terminologies, procedures, laws, etc. involved. It's cool to be able to have conversations about my work that not every outsider overhearing will understand. It is also especially awesome to be a part of something so much more than just retail. Finally! What I do is so much more. I help, really help, in a way that far exceeds the rewards I have ever had in the past.
Related to my job with working with children, I find myself having a hard time adjusting to talking to adults/peers after my shifts. Not only are they children, they're special needs and some are not verbal. All of this affects my communication style dramatically. It's ever-changing throughout the shift as well. Either I am mostly silent, repeating myself endlessly, making weird sounds, being very very bossy, and getting tongue-tied (more than usual, anyways). It also varies with the kid I'm with. There are specific individuals, friends and exes that I talk to after work and really notice how hard it is to switch back to Normal Alyssa Talking Mode. Fortunately, it is very amusing to all of us.
