It's been an interesting past week.
The guy I'm dating had major surgery on his knee. He survived and is doing alright but it's been quite a process. And I have been doing all I can to help him.
It was also my favorite coworker's last week of work so she can go back to Tucson and get her Masters and go back to her job on the University of Arizona campus. I wish her the best luck, but I'm definitely going to miss her. She was one of the sweetest, soft-spoken person I've met in a long time. She taught me the most in this job so far, I trusted her judgement and relied on her a lot. She was a natural at the job and I hope she can find a great teaching job once she gets her Masters. The upside, however, is that she will visit whenever she can and she has opened her place to any of us within our classroom to come visit Tucson. This means I will most likely take her up on that so I can finally check out the observatory in Tucson. That's pretty fucking rad of her.
I have spent this weekend applying for jobs. So far I have completed applications to a really cool used clothing store and FedEx Office. The clothing store, Plato's Closet, is much like Buffalo Exchange but so much cheaper and a little more homey. I'm really hoping my many years in retail and clothing stores will get me the job. This job provides flexibility for those in school, I'm hoping that will work to my advantage since I work at a school. FedEx Office is something I don't entirely have direct experience in but I do have tons of retail experience and love to learn new things [I feel like I'm repeating my resume now]. This particular FedEx location is open 24 hours, so I'm guessing there will be plenty of hours I can take although the position is part time. FedEx Office provides many printing services [Formally known as Kinko's] along with their usual shipping/packing services. Either way, I need a second job for after my primary job and I desperately need to find summer work. If I get something, this will be the first time in my life that I will have multiple jobs at once, I hope I can pull it off. I'm also still going to keep doing my dreadlock services [more about that below] and hope to help a good friend with his company.
Other news that I've neglected to share is that my paternal grandmother is dying of lung cancer. Apparently they've narrowed her death clock to weeks. I have yet to visit her. There are reasons for this, although I do intend to, but not necessarily for her, but for my other family members. I do not wish to discuss this just yet. This will be done at a later time, perhaps even after her death.
To dive into more family matters, I have completely omitted the fact that my mother was diagnosed with Hepatitis C a year ago. She underwent and is still undergoing treatment since late last year. The Hep C has been cured, but she has a bit more time with treatment just to be sure. There were many complications along the way, but she's doing pretty well now. Needless to say she's also been sober...as far as I know. With this is mind, my relationship with her has gotten better, but has not been completely mended, for that will still take a lot of time.
My brother is still sober and still looking for employment. He's been growing and maturing more than I've ever seen him in his entire life. I'm still very proud of him.
I have successfully obtained one client for my dreadlock services thus far. I did some dread maintenance for about 3 hours last weekend and he is definitely interested in using my services in the near future. It's pretty exciting.
And finally, I have also put up a job posting looking to watch kids with special needs. I found out about the website Care.com where I can post profiles and look for jobs to do baby sitting, house sitting, pet sitting/walking. The website is legit and pretty cool actually.
I'm definitely keeping busy, that's for sure.
