Today, there was another decision I had made, involving the next book I will read.
One day, months ago now, I saw a trailer for the film One Day. I was instantly intrigued, and more so since it was based off a novel.
One day, I was at Bookman's, foraging for good books. I texted a friend, asking him if he could find the name of the author of this book. He found out for me, but unfortunately Bookman's did not carry the book at that time.
One day, my friend gave me a gift. It was the book.
One day, I decided that I would see the film prior to beginning the reading adventure. This is because the film does look good, and I don't want to ruin that experience. That enjoyment, that bliss, that I often get from seeing a film. I don't want to criticize its every difference. I don't want to compare similarities. I don't want to think about the book at all.
In 2 days, that film is being released to theaters. After I see it, I will begin reading the novel.
I cope far better with reading books after films. Because in that way, I can actually appreciate both arts. Books are far more intensive and require the imagination of the wonderful mind. They overtake me so much more that all this criticism, all these comparisons aren't annoying at all. And of course, generally the films can nurture my imagination if I enjoyed it enough. Granted, there are some [if not most] mental visuals encouraged by writing that are far better and more enjoyable than those depicted in film. But for me, I can still imagine my own surroundings, the character's however are never clear set in my mind. Having a focus of a particular person [or actor] for each character makes it easier for me to imagine, and sometimes it's better. A silly example that I have to share for the sake of laughter and truth is Twilight. I'm thoroughly glad I saw the film before reading the books. Robert Pattinson is a beautiful sight in my opinion, and I gladly imagined him all through my readings. There's more to all this, but I'm still collecting my thoughts. But I do know for sure that I prefer to see films first. Because after all, I still do have a profound love for films.
