Of the many dreams I had, I'll tell you about the more visually stunning and most recent dream I had prior to waking up today.
It started out where my cousin, brother, father, and I were all in my dad's truck at a gas station. I think we had been working with him for the day. It is now starting to get dark outside. Everyone is in a great mood, even my dad. While my dad went inside the gas station, we waited outside. For whatever reason my brother and cousin get into the trunk. I'm not paying attention. My cousin gets out but my brother is still there. The lid closes and somehow he's locked in. I attempt some Morse code knocking on the trunk lid. The funny thing about that is, I didn't know Morse code and he probably didn't either. It was also just a joke in my mind as a dreamer, but then I apparently controlled the dream and made myself actually attempt the Morse code. What I had knocked on the lid was something along the lines if he could hear me. My cousin translated what he said back to me and that my brother could not hear me. But then he changed his mind as I started to talk again, my brother could hear me. I told him we have to wait til dad comes back to get him out of the trunk so it should only be a minute. Not only was he locked in the trunk he was actually stuck between the ground and a hole in the trunk. It really makes no sense, but that's what happened. We got him out easily after waiting briefly. I was only slightly panicked that he would run out of oxygen but obviously he wasn't going to be kept there for days.
We finally drive away and wave to man that looks like Santa Claus. And down the street we notice some major flooding in a condominium complex. It had been raining earlier, and a friend of mine apparently lived in this complex. Somehow it also became day time again. The water was relatively calm, but quite high. In one portion of the complex it was ridiculously high and filled the entire driving space. Another part of the complex had more of a pathway that dipped into the ground allowing all the water to fall into that space like a stream. I got out of the car and walked amongst this space. There were just a couple kids around, I was smiling at them. The sun was shining, the water was flowing, it was beautiful. I walked further and a colorful enclosed area caught my eye straight ahead. I walked up to it without moving my eyes from it. It was a large garden surrounding a pond, circularly enclosed by white concrete walls. It was absolutely gorgeous. Every space was covered in flowers and plants, of all colors. Once I took in all the visual beauty, the other senses overwhelmed me. I could smell the pollen of this enormous amount of flowers, it was so strong that I actually needed to remove myself from the space. I did, however, start to walk towards the pond, there were large crunching sounds as I stepped on plants. There were also bugs floating about. Which further encouraged me not to walk further because each step provoked more bugs to go up in flight. There was a young boy in this garden too. As I started to walk, and started to stop, my brother approached and that's when the smell continued to get stronger and the fear of bugs made me turn to leave.
The most interesting things about this garden was the presence of the other senses. The visual part is a common theme in my dreams, of course. But the smell of the plants was so strong that I could actually feel my allergies coming on. Never in my life had I had an experience like that in a dream, and one that was so realistic at that. Another very small but significant detail was the crunching of the plants as I walked on them. Both the sound and the feeling were not of those that occur in my dreams on a regular basis, and this was also extremely realistic. Finally, my reactions to the bugs and smell was quite realistic and just simply different in a dream. I kept putting my forearm in front of my nose, even tried to breathe through my mouth, and probably even pulled my shirt over my nose. Bugs don't generally bother me, but large amounts can be overwhelming, especially if I'm also irritated by a strong smell which may have caused me to have my mouth open. Lots of bugs plus an open mouth, not a good combo.
My point with these minor details is the realism and almost the commonality, the mundaneness about them. Yet they are not common to my dreams at all.
It's interesting, what allows a dream to be so different from the rest? Why? Why now? What for?
I never did get to approach that pond.
