Today for class we were learning about trauma on bones. So we looked at slides and some real [or casted] bones. One particular bone was the top portion of a man's skull which a huge indentation and puncture. Just from across the room I knew what caused that, either an axe or machete. As my teacher described that and the fact that this man actually survived the injury [but obviously died some time after] it kind of disturbed me. For my imagination and my empathy doesn't always do me good, I felt pained and cringed to the thought. However when the skull eventually got passed over to me, I felt this electric burst of excitement just holding it. It was a real skull, not a casted one, so I ran my fingers over the sutures and the trauma...the feeling just from that brief moment was exhilarating.
