In other random news, I've recently thrown around the idea of engraving a ring I wear all the time. I have this simple but thick sterling silver band that I wear on my left ring finger [seen below in the most recent Halloween photo, click to see larger size]. I imagine to those that don't know me, they assume this is a wedding band.
Because of it's placement and assumed meaning I decided to engrave a quote to it. But I should backtrack to why I got the ring in the first place. In 2005 I saw a film called Stay. It has been one of my favorite films since I have seen it. Ryan Gosling stars in it, and wears a similar ring, that is made of a darker color [as seen in photo below]. I found the ring really attractive, as I have always loved simple silver bands. After searching and searching I finally found the perfect one. Originally it fit on my index finger and sometimes my middle finger. For the last few years it has been on my ring finger.
This film holds a great profound place in my heart and I do not wish to give away what the film is about, I'll just tell you to go see it. Anyways, my favorite quote from the film is "There's just too much beauty to quit." The character stating the quote was referring to life, that there is too much beauty in the world to quit life, to suicide. Thus, if I were to engrave that quote it would mean, given the placement, that I am married to life. That's it! I do not foresee myself getting married at all, and this ring, dedicated to life, would be the only marriage I will behold.
If I find the time this weekend, I look around to see if I can find a place to do it the way I want it. A little gift to myself.
