Trip Hop

As I've briefly mentioned, I now own a Samsung Galaxy SII phone, which I love very much. My friend suggested I download the playlist app called Songza, which I did. [They have a website too!!] It's fabulous! It lists various playlists, playlists within playlists too, for each part of the day. You just make the choices of what mood you're in or whatever activity you are currently doing. Or you can just search for your favorites and listen to them whenever. I have not yet encountered a limit on skipping songs or changing playlists, so that's a definite plus that basically makes me hate Pandora these days. No ads either! Anyways, the past week I've been listening to a trip hop playlist that has been rocking my socks. I now have a list of a bunch of new bands I want to explore.

This brings me to a random story I feel some overwhelming urge to share despite its actual mild importance. Friday morning I'm driving to work, listening to the trip hop playlist. A song "Ketto" is playing from a musician that goes by the name Bonobo. I've heard a handful of his songs so far and enjoy them. Through the beautiful instrumentals I start to hear vocals from the chorus of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun". I was getting insanely into the song, thinking how brilliant this collaboration this is, reminding me of some of Girl Talk's music that I'm surprisingly fond of. As the song ends I hear a speaking voice and realized I still left my car radio on. Thus Soundgarden was playing on the radio and Bonobo playing from my phone. It so happened that both songs overlapped perfectly and started and ended at roughly the same time. It blew my fucking mind! The main reason, aside from my overwhelming childish excitement about it, to share this experience is because I feel like it's a good idea. It occurred to me that some music, like anything else created by man, can come about by accident. Some of the greatest achievements have been accidents. So I will hope this sparks something in the digital world, or it can just be a fun thing that I've personally enjoyed and will never forget.
