I always forget how much I truly love this film. I love how absolutely real it is.
This part is one of my top 5 favorite film scenes that I will never forget.
I watched this last night since I decided to write a little bit of one of my papers on it. But watching it again, for who knows how many times, I realized how much of this movie occupies my mind on a daily basis when I actually didn't know it at all. This scene in the video, top 5 lists, the way he analyzes the things she says and does, the questions he asks, cotton underwear, the funeral scene, record organization, the science of making mix tapes, and so much more.
Many years ago I checked the book out at the library, loved it. Just the other night I finally purchased it and I own it! I have my own lovely copy, all to myself. Books are like trophies of knowledge and experiences for me...I love them. Organic knowledge.
"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"
