I never fucking knew. Didn't fucking know that the legislation of hate crimes excluded those based on sexual orientation. Not until only the end of October of last year. NOT EVEN 4 FUCKING MONTHS AGO! I'm so fucking furious but elated that Obama signed this Act into law, which has been trying to get passed since the murder and trial of Matthew Shepard in 1998. To be completely honest, hate crimes that are done based on sexual orientation are by far the most enraging and personal ones to me. The ones that strike out at me the most. The ones that can make me bawl for hours. The ones that completely break my heart. The ones that make me, sitting here on campus, cry and stare blankly at the screen while my heart races while I have to restrain the screams that want to surface. I need to leave.
