Dreamy Nights

Somehow in the middle of sleeping and not so much sleeping I got an art idea. Pretty sweet. Then proceeded to dream something crazy about it...this is definitely where I just don't need drugs. This leads me to quote one of my favorite quotes from M.C. Escher, “I don't use drugs, my dreams are frightening enough.” Mine may not be so frightening anymore, but my imagination and the vividity is just astounding. Probably the biggest beauty of being human, the capacity for imagination. Imagination is what keeps me sane.
It doesn't help that another dream I had wasn't of the best and it will be an hour or so til I shake the feeling.
I also got an idea for a piece yesterday when talking about how I wished that I had separate brains and many eyes and arms so I can read all the books I want at one time. Heh, I'll see what I can make of that.
I think I'll finish this post off with some more quotes from Escher:
“Are you really sure that a floor can't also be a ceiling?”
“Originality is merely an illusion”
“Order is repetition of units.
Chaos is multiplicity without rhythm.”
"I have sometimes heard painters say that they paint "for themselves": but I think they would soon have painted their fill if they lived on a desert island. The primary purpose of all art forms, whether it’s music, literature, or the visual arts, is to say something to the outside world; in other words, to make a personal thought, a striking idea, an inner emotion perceptible to other people’s senses in such a way that there is no uncertainty about the maker's intentions."
"It is human nature to want to exchange ideas, and I believe that, at bottom, every artist wants no more than to tell the world what he has to say."
"Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible. I think it's in my basement... let me go upstairs and check."
