Altered States

While talking to a good friend of mine, he made realize something and shift in a new perspective. We were talking about music and drugs and that some guy had told him that he will never truly appreciate certain bands unless he was high or on something. My friend and I don't do drugs. My response was that some people need to understand that some people have highly imaginative minds without the help of drugs. It made me think, that our minds have evolved or something because we feel better off without substances. But other people need drugs to alter their minds to make it "better." That thought alone was inspirational and made me grateful for the places my mind can take me without alteration. I personally think the experience of life and the senses we have evolved with are enough inspiration alone. Most people may take that all for granted and don’t know how to really feel things. Helen Keller was an amazing poet and she technically only had the sense of smell and touch. With that she experienced life so much differently than people who have those senses and more. I feel that the lack of sense is really just another sense. For instance, I am hard of hearing which only gives me a different experience, not a lesser experience. Really, I can hear music two different ways. Plus literal feeling of music also.

“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart” -Helen Keller
