Dreams, Silence, and Awareness

I have quite a few separate topics I wanted to write about today.

I finally saw "There Will Be Blood" the other night and it is definitely a great film, but at the moment I'm only concerned about the deaf aspect of the film. I was very fascinated by how they would go about the boy's deafness in the film although that wasn't the really the focus at all. For some reason I thought this film was based off true events so I wanted to make sure they were accurate in the timeline. The issues with his son was definitely the saddest part of the movie for me, my eyes filled up with tears. Despite the fact that they didn't dwell into the deafness I'm glad they involved it in the film regardless, for the sake of awareness for all people.

Another thing was a very interesting piece of information that I learned about H.R. Giger, that amazing artist paints from his dreams. That is very inspirational to me and just plain astounding. I love it.

One last thing about deafness that I would like to briefly mention is that hearing people have no clue what it is like to be deaf or hard of hearing. They have no idea what the sounds of pure silence is. They have no idea how much language and hearing are so deeply connected. The only way they can stop being so ignorant is to make the effort to try to understand, or at the very least, to be aware. Awareness is the biggest key in this culture and I definitely cannot stress that enough.
